Gondwana University (GU) is a State Government University. In 2011, GU was carved out of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU), Nagpur. It was established by Government of Maharashtra Dated 27th September, 2011 governed by the Maharashtra University Act, 1994. It started functioning on September 28, 2011 but was formally launched later. It is located in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, India and has been especially formed for the development of socio-economical backward districts of Gadchiroli and Chandrapur. Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts come under its jurisdiction. Gadchiroli district is the administrative headquarters of the district. It has about 236 colleges affiliated to it.
