Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University (DBATU) is a State Government University specialising in technical education. DBATU is Unitary (non-affiliating) in nature with entire Maharashtra as its area of activity. The idea of establishing a Technological University in Konkan region as an instrument of economic development was conceived by the Government of Maharashtra in 1981. However, the university was established on 5th May, 1989 by the Government of Maharashtra. The University is located at Lonere, the place in the ranges of Western Ghat, at the foot of Raigad fort, the place from where Chhatrapati Shivaji administered his major activities. Its campus is spread over 468 acres of land.
