Sardar Patel University was established by an Act of the Legislative Assembly of the then Bombay Province in December 1955 and was recognised under 2f of the UGC Act in October 1968. It is named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a political and social leader of India who played a major role in the country's struggle for independence and guided its integration into a united, independent nation. The University Campus – the main campus as well as 3 satellite campuses – are situated in the heart of a rural countryside against a lush green pollution-free backdrop, offering all the amenities of modern life. Sardar Patel University comprises of 25 Postgraduate Departments, a constituent college, and 70 colleges affiliated to it. There are 14 PG Centres in the affiliated colleges/institutions.The University offers 40 graduate and post graduate courses, 20 diploma courses and 8 certificate courses in mainstream faculty disciplines.
